My work is doing a clinical study about technology and weight loss and has been encouraging employees to participate. A bunch of people from my department thought it might be a good motivator, so we all signed up. Yesterday was the orientation, and they randomized us into 2 groups (control and device). I got the device! It is basically a pedometer that records how many steps you take, when, how fast, etc. You set a goal of a certain amount of steps per day, and it has a flashing light that changes colors based on how you are doing. It comes with a scale that it syncs to, and you plug it into your computer and it uploads all your walking and weight info. There is also a facebook type app that allows you to be friends with people, set up events, and join competitions.
You also have to get 3 blood draws to get biometrics for cholesterol, lipids, and they record your weight, blood pressure, etc.
You may not know that I am extremely competetive (thanks, Dad) and a rule follower, so when it told me that I still had 1291 steps to do I grabbed Bella and walked around the block waiting for Jose to get home. 342 more? Fine. I will march in place while I blow dry my hair. This might be a good thing. So... if you see me walking up and down the street in the dark with a baby, you know what is going on.
Also, my light is flashing red so I need to get a move on.
If you walk past the Vachon home, I'll meet you out front with a dixie cup of cerveza to cheer you on. Rock on to your newest challenge. I admire your super mom power. Where can I get some? -KV
