On Veteran's Day weekend, we had a Scott Sissy Reunion in DC. Jill had a couple of free tickets that she had to use, so she flew Jenna and I out for a visit.
It did not start off so well, with a several hour delay out of Eugene. Fortunately, I was able to be rescheduled onto a later connection, but flying into Dulles instead of Reagan. This was my view for 3 hours.
After arriving close to midnight, we dropped Josh off and went to her apartment to sleep. The next morning, we woke up and went to the airport to pick up Jenna. We didn't have costumes, but we had wigs!Jenna didn't even recognize us. That afternoon we walked across the street from Jill's apartment to the vacant lot that housed the flea market. Jill described it as a bunch of people selling junk they found at Goodwill for $100. That was pretty accurate. We quickly upgraded and took the bus to Eastern Market. There were some good finds there. Sadly, Jenna did not buy this hat.
The meat market/ baked good section was fun. Jill picked up a pomegranate for snacking. Jenna looked cute in her green coat.
From Eastern Market, we purchased a day pass to Capital Bikeshare and rode to Josh's house. He lives in a supercute row house!
That evening we were joined by Josh's brother, Zach, and Jill's buddy, Meg for dinner. We dined at The Hamilton and the food was fantastic. I particularly enjoyed my tiny cheeseburgers!
After dinner, we hopped on another bike from Capital Bikeshare and went on a tour of the monuments. First stop: The White House. HI, Obamas!
The World War II memorial was new since my last visit. It was beautiful. We stopped by the Oregon plaque.
The Lincoln Memorial was quite crowded. We parked our bikes and walked around the outside.
Aren't they adorable?
This is one of my favorite pictures of us. I think I will call it Sissies in Shadows.
On our way out, Honest Abe stopped by in the flesh. He hopped over the barrier and was quickly escorted out by park police. That Abe!
Another new monument since my last visit was the MLK memorial. There were some amazing quotes that are still so applicable today.
After several hours and many miles, our tour was complete. We parked our bikes near the Capitol and hailed a cab home.
Sunday, we slept in late, then took a cab to the Mansion on O Street. It is a series of row houses that used to be owned by the FBI and are interconnected. They have a secret door hunt, and many tours. It is also a hotel, and everything you see is for sale. We have fun time wandering around. Our favorite room was the wine cellar which is hidden behind a door in the spice rack in the working kitchen.
After another wonderful dinner, this time at Founding Farmers, we went to the Kennedy Center. Josh bought us tickets to see Sister Act. It was so good, and the Kennedy Center is beautiful. I especially loved the ceiling!
Monday, after a long day of travel that included more delays, rerouting, and switching airlines (in addition to pulling out someone stuck in the Metro door), I arrived home.
