June in the Marquez household means it is softball season. Jose once again joined his work colleagues for summer city league softball. The games were a little earlier this year, which was nice
so the girls and I could watch.
The girls don't really understand the game yet, but are mostly excited to run around outside and watch their dad bat. This year, we brought dinner for most games. Sometimes we brought the entire kitchen.

Evening times are hit or miss with Natalia. She doesn't take afternoon naps anymore, so she sometimes falls asleep in the car on the way home from Abuela's.

Go Butterfingers!

Bella made thank you cards for her teachers at the end of the school year. I collected art supplies and let her have at it. Apparently, I should have paid more attention to what stickers were in our stash. Bella said this is what teachers do on summer break. It is probably pretty accurate!
June also brought the first harvest from our little garden. Peppers, strawberries, cucumbers, and tomatoes galore! The corn is also getting pretty tall!
This summer, one of Natalia's teachers is hosting events at her house. It is called Sparkle Monster Club and consists of four hour blocks where the kids can go play and eat. The girls absolutely love it!
Jose and I spent one of those dates hiking the back of Skinner's Butte. It is a short walk, but easy to do after dinner.
When we came back to pick up the girls they were very fancy. They had been playing a game with unicorns and sea monsters. Obviously, they were team unicorn.
One afternoon, I took the girls to Lone Pine Farm to get some veggies, visit the goats, and play on the playground. Natalia was a little hesitant to actually have the goat touch her while she fed it, so she would toss the food pellets in the general direction of the goats. Instead, she left most of the feeding to Bella.
Both girls thought the sheep were adorable and soft looking. Natalia was equally freaked out by the sheep, especially when the started Baa-ing.
In years past, the Lone Pine playground has been a bit advanced for the girls. It is not a pre-fabricated type playground, but more hand built. As a result some of the ladders are steep, the slides are a bit scary, and climbing can be a challenge.
This year the girls both played without much help. They still wanted pushes on the swings, but were able to climb the structures and slides without being too scared.
Plus, the sandbox is always fun. Toward the end of our visit, Natalia spotted a train in the field. After asking around, we learned that you could rent it for parties, but it wasn't available for general admission. Now Natalia has decided she must have her birthday party here.
On our way back to the car we stopped to get a picture on the tractor. Don't be fooled by their smiling faces, they fought the whole time they were up there.
We also spent some time at Bella's new elementary school. There are several upcoming events in the summer, but I figure anytime she spends there will help the transition.
This month we signed up for Blue Apron and got our first delivery. I wasn't sure what to expect, but had heard good things.
So far, we love it! The dinners are pretty easy to make in about 45 minutes or so, and it has given us some great ideas for dinners to make on our own!
Finally, we ended the month with lots of time outside, and some very random pictures to show for it...
Which of these girls is not part Mexican?
She climbed up there, but now can't get down.
Street soccer! Otherwise known as chasing a ball down the hill when someone kicks it out of the yard, then bringing it back.
Everyone's favorite summer classic, Roofball.
Happy Summer!
